WOMEN'S CLOTHING DURING THE VICTORIAN ERA

Welcome!

This blog's objective is to dissect the stereotypical women's attire from the 1800s.

Being only 18 years old when she took the throne in 1837, Queen Victoria was full of youth's delights and enjoyed the latest trends. Throughout the course of her 63-year reign, her taste in clothing had a significant impact over the fashion trends.

Victoria, just as most women of her era, dressed to please the men in her life. With the help and style recommendations of  Lord Melbourne, and later of  Prince Albert, Victoria ended up setting a pretty distinctive fashion standard, particularly in the first part of her reign.

She requested that all of her clothing and the one worn by those in her court was made in Britain, as any British monarch ought to. Her preference for clothing swiftly established itself as the benchmark for the ideal Romantic woman.

So, let's have a quick look at Victorian clothing and how Victoria and her family influenced the British women's attire.
